Engagement Story

We started talking about marriage a few weeks before I actually proposed. Soon after I convinced her to say she wanted to marry me I started looking for the ring. This was during the week and I wanted to propose on Friday so I only had a few days to find the ring we wanted. We went to look at rings beforehand so she could show me what type of ring she wanted. Long story short; I found the perfect ring and was able to get it before I went and visited her in Rexburg. I made her think that I wouldn’t able to get the ring for at least a few weeks. So I believed him and really thought that he didn’t have the ring yet.
I wanted it to be a surprise and I also wanted it to be in a way that only made sense to us. Something unique to us. I knew that I wanted to use places that were special to me and Brittney. The night we started dating we went to the abandoned trains so I knew I wanted to use those as where I would propose. The day of I was pretty nervous. Not nervous because I doubted anything but because I wanted everything to be perfect. So I needed my friends help to be able to get everything set up the way I wanted. It was fun trying to set up everything and keep it all a secret from Brittney. Plus all her roommates, friends, and pretty much her whole family already knew I was gonna propose that night. It was pretty fun trying to set everything up that day without Brittney catching on to us. And I never did catch on to anything he was planning. We were watching a movie but I really needed to leave and start setting up stuff. I had my friend call me and pretend that he needed to talk to me. I knew it was lame but I really couldn’t think of another story. So I left to go “talk” to him but really we went get everything ready. First I bought a red rose. Then I showed him where the places were that I was gonna use. Meanwhile I was back at my apartment hanging out with my roommate since Chad went to go talk to his friend, at least thats what I thought. I thought it was kind of weird that he would leave me in the middle of our movie like that, because that just didn’t seem like him. Also I thought that his friend wanting to talk didn’t sound much like him either. There is NO WAY I would give up snuggling time with Brittney to go talk to a friend. So I kind of thought something might of been up, so I tried to see if my roommate Breanne knew anything or possibly would give anything away so I just kept talking to her about why you left to see what she might say to me or act as if something was up. But she was actually really good and did not give anything away to me.
I came back to her apartment and took her to Idaho Falls to eat at Olive Garden and I also told her to dress warm (for our adventure she didn’t know about). I chose Olive Garden because it’s the nicest restaurant in that town plus the bread sticks are SOOO good! And I love Olive Garden too :) As we were leaving out the door Brittney was on the couch and I told her to get on my back like she always does. But just when she was about to jump I remembered I had the ring and in the box in my coat pocket and was afraid she would feel the ring when she jumped on my back so I told her No. I was really confused why he didn’t want me to so randomly and I noticed that but was like ok oh well, and thought nothing more about it. All there is to say about eating dinner was that we had a lot of fun feeding each other and getting stomach aches and no matter what Brittney says I did NOT flirt with the forty year old waitress. I did go the bathroom to talk with my friend to make sure everything was good to go. We drove back to Rexburg and I just wanted to go home because we were both having stomach pains but i asked if she wanted to go walk around the temple since we never have before. And I actually noticed that he was in the wrong lane to go to my apartment already before he even asked if i wanted to go up to the temple, which I thought was kind of odd... I was thinking o crap she doesn’t even wanna be out anymore! I almost called it off to do it the next night because we were in so much pain. But I was still up for anything :) We got to the temple and it was so cold but we walked around it. While we were walking I had my friend place the rose I bought on a bench where we would come across it. Brittney saw it and asked what that was. I pretended I didn’t know . She saw that it was a rose. As we were walking to the back side of the temple, he was leading me down these stairs that I knew only came back up again so I said we didn’t need to go down there, but as we did I noticed a rose laying on the bench and I said “oh look a rose” I said “O cool” and I told her to go check it out since I tied a little note to it. But I didn’t want to pick up the rose because I thought it was for someone else. I tried again to get her to pick it up. Then I said “what if someone is trying to propose?...” What a dumb question to ask.... And then I thought, wait that was a dumb question..haha. I pointed out there was a note attached to it and that she should read it but I knew she wasn’t gonna pick it up so I finally told her to just pick it up.And that was when I started to think, oh it was from Chad so I laughed a little, so I asked if it was from him and he told me just to pick it up and see. But by then I knew it was from him, so I picked up the rose and opened the note to see that it said “I love you Brittney.” Aww. Kinda lame I know but I thought simplest is best. So then we walked back to the car. I was thinking that was sweet, and didn’t think that there was going to be any more surprises for the night. I quickly texted my friends to say thanks and to make sure that they were heading to where I was gonna propose to get it all ready. They were but they needed 20 minutes so we needed to kill some time. The thing is though, me and Brittney were having really bad stomach pains and she said that she was just ready to go home and watch a movie or something. I was like......crap.....should I just try to do this tomorrow or what!? I decided to just do it then since I already did the rose part so I convinced her to go to the arcade where we had our first date. When we talked about going to the arcade to play our favorite game from when he first visited last summer that we got addicted to, I thought that sounded like a fun idea, but I thought it wasn’t really like Chad to not just take me home since I mentioned my stomach hurt, and I knew that his hurt as well. So I did think that was a little odd, but I was just like whatever, lets go to the arcade! Not much to say about that. We had a blast playing our favorite game and I was frikin nervous. Not really nervous to get engaged to Brittney just nervous as in I wanted everything to be perfect. Since we kinda first started dating officially when we hung out by the abandoned trains I wanted to ask her on top of one. How many people propose on an abandoned train tell me that. Frikin awesome right? So I asked her if she wanted to go visit them since we haven’t gone back since we started dating. I thought that now she would start to suspect something. But I didn’t suspect anything really. I just thought it would be cool to go back to those trains as well. Once we started driving Chad was starting to get all nervous or something I could tell because he was asking me which way to the trains, like left or right? and I was like “uh...Chad you know where they are...” So I did start to think something was up. Not that he would propose, but I started to think he planned something, not sure what. I noticed he was parking towards a different set of trains, behind the ones we had gone on top of before, and I was thinking why not go to the actual ones we were at during the beginnng of fall. And then that was when Chad said, “There’s snow on top of those trains over there.” I had no idea what he was talking about how she couldn’t see the snow on the trains is beyond me.... and so I just went along with it, ok.... I just wondered, how did he know that... We parked and started for the trains and went to the train that my friends put everything up at. He told me to grab the big comforter that was in the back of his car and I went to grab his hand on his left side and I noticed he quickly switched me to holding his right hand. She usually puts her hand in my jacket pocket when it’s cold so I was like o crap she might do that and touch the ring! I noticed that and thought that was kind of odd, but didn’t think too much of it. he told me to go up on the train first, so as I went and climbed on top I saw that there were blankets and stuff already set up. I tried to pretend at first I didn’t see but I knew he knew, I just didn’t know what he was planning. So we climbed up and there was a heater, some flashlights, and some blankets. Man I was scared ha. I wanted everything to be perfect but when was the perfect moment!? So we finally got the heater to start and then just sat up on the train for awhile, just holding each other, kissed and talked for a little while. I knew she was thinking I was gonna propose so I was like “ Ready to go?” Him proposing of course did go through my mind but I still didn’t think he was going to right then. I don’t know why. We stood up and got the stuff ready and we just stood there....freezing our butts off holding each other. I still didn’t know how to say it! All these lame lines went through my head but I threw those out. I wanted to be original but good enough for her. I wanted to open the box facing her so she could see the ring so I was fidgeting with it in my pocket to make sure it was facing the right way when I would pull it out and I noticed him put his hand into his pocket a few times, and then he would pull it back out again. That was when I really did start to think that he had a ring. Then when he put his hand into his pocket again, I heard a box close shut. I thought that was kind of funny but I accidentally opened it and closed it with a loud snap! Ya that was lame. I was thinking well I better go on and do it now since she heard that so I told her that I hoped she liked the little surprises I had for her like the rose, the arcade, and the train. Then I asked her if she did like them even tho they weren't very much. I told him that I did really like all of the little surprises he did for me tonight, and I told him thanks. I noticed he was starting to get like really nervous now, and I knew it was coming but it was still just so hard to believe. I was even getting a little nervous as well but also just wanted him to get on with it haha. I said well I just have one more little surprise for ya and I got down on one knee and pulled out the ring and asked “Will you marry me?” I looked up at her and she was crying and she said yes without hesitation. She didn’t even look at the ring. She just looked at me. Talk about the best feeling in the world!!! That’s true, I didn’t even really look at the ring at first, I saw him down on one knee proposing and I couldn't believe this was happening. It was just too good to be true. It was all just seeming like a dream. This has obviously never happened before so it was just a different but awesome feeling. So I said “yes” right away and leaned down and kissed him. It really was an amazing feeling. Being engaged to Brittney was something I had been wanting for a while and it finally happened! I was so happy to say the least and just relieved. A few minutes went by and she still hadn’t put on the ring so I was like....Do you wanna see it and wear it? So I was like “ya!” So he showed me the ring and put it on. I loved it! :)And they lived happily ever after!!!!
